Work on paper

A small graphite study — a standing figure in profile, hair falling loose, drawn with the economy of someone who had drawn the pose a hundred times. It sits deep in a wide mount with silver Deco corner devices and a printed label, under glass in a heavy gold frame.

Norman Lindsay (1879–1969) is among the best known Australian artists of his generation, as a draughtsman and etcher of the figure and as the author of The Magic Pudding. Attribution and provenance for this sheet are a conversation with Ross.
